Thanks for your question! Our Healthcare Expert will be answering some questions every week but in the meantime, here's a little tip from our Careline! So far there isn't any concrete evidence that hair services such as coloring or applying tonic would cause defects to the unborn baby. As the hair does not absorb the chemicals, and only tiny amounts are absorbed from the scalp and skin, the risk to the baby is very minimal. Nevertheless, the first twelve weeks are a time of major development for your baby, which is why most experts would advice to wait until second trimester before going for any hair treatment. Hope this helps!

It depends on the ingredients of the hair tonic. For most hair tonics, it should be safe during pregnancy though it is probably safer to avoid using them in the first trimester.

Hello, during my pregnancy I do use hair tonic for myself. So far my baby ok. There is no evidence that hair chemical or tonic would affect the foetus. Safest time to start using is during your 2nd trimester. Of cos try to minimize the usage when you are pregnant.
