Toddlers have little tummies, so serve foods that are packed with the nutrients they need to grow healthy and strong. Use the Healthy Diet Pyramid as a guide when planning your child's meals and snacks. Make sure that your child consumes a variety of food from the 4 food groups. Remember that food high in fat, sugar and salt should only be eaten sparingly. Keep healthy snacks at home such as wholemeal bread, fruit, vegetable sticks, wholemeal biscuits and yoghurt as your child may need to eat frequently to keep up with his higher energy needs. Here are some ideas for foods that can be served for healthy meals or snacks-- Macaroni and Cheese, Macaroni soup with minced chicken, some carrots & french beans, Corn & mushroom in chicken stock, Soup with fish (threadfin) + tomato/ carrot/ spinach, Baked salmon or cod with Mashed potato/butternut squash , Steamed tofu with mixed veges, Chopped spaghetti/abc pasta with homemade pasta sauce, Mee sua soup, Mix one cup of whole-grain oat cereal with 1/4 cup chopped walnuts and 1/4 cup dried cranberries for a healthy trail mix, Oatmeal mixed with ¼ cup drained diced pears or bananas, Yogurt smoothies blended with fruit, Sandwiches made with egg, tuna, chicken salad, sliced cheese, or easy-to-chew meat ( use a biscuit cutter to create fun-shaped, mini sandwiches), Beehoon with green leafy vegetables , Home-made pancakes topped with fresh fruit, Mini omelettes or scrambled eggs and toast, Chicken stir-fry with vegetables and Baked beans and toast. Think six mini-meals instead of three squares a day — aiming for a meal or filling snack every two to three hours. Be patient and creative if your child refuse certain food. Seek alternatives that are just as nourishing e.g. instead of broccoli, give spinach. To interest your child in retrying a disliked food, try adding it to the food that he already enjoys.

There is a great variety of weaning foods for 16 month old toddlers. You may progressively try firmer textured foods like rice and noodles, bread, biscuits etc. You can also reduce the blending of food to encourage chewing. Various meats, vegetables and fruits can all be given at this age.

If you little one is able to chew, can try baby pasta, noodles, rice - all these cook until super soft. Can also give vegetables such as carrots, pumpkin, sweet potato etc. No necessary puree but more textured pieces which your child can chew. Can also try scrambled eggs and toast. I remembered when my elder boy can chew, we gave him bread dipped in his formula milk.

I think maybe macaroni soup will be ok? But make sure to cook until the macaronis are very soft. U can also add in small pieces of veggies in them to train them and let them get used to the taste of veggies.

Prepare batches of vegetables and meat and store in freezer. That way you can have them with the porridge.

Other than porridge, my little one (15 months)'s favorite meal so far is potato salmon with cheese. Steam 1 or 2 peeled potato together with slices of salmon fish. Add water and blend all together when cooled. Stir in 1 slice of cheese into the blended mix and bring to boil. No seasoning required at all. Tasty and nutritious meal for your little one. :) you can also steam an egg and blend it together (add more water) with the above mix for a more nutritious meal.

You can try different stuff like macaroni, pasta or noddles. My 15 mth old is already eating these. Add tomato or cheese as the sauce n add beef or chicken to it. It taste great.

These little monsters hv a little appetide, so alwAys cookfresh & in small portions, u can try french toast as it is soft & easy to chew, u can introduce them to small cutlets, potato wedges, carrot sticks semi boiled just soft to bite, custard with fruits like banana, dice apples,mango or even strawberry. This is the best time to feed as the will eat but when they grow older they become very fussy so try as many new things u can think off. But dont force as they tk time to develope the taste so stay cool but keep trying.

No, I haven't introduced rice. My porridge resembles those in teochew porridge but not so soupy. Recently, I have added fish into the porridge. Previously, I would steam and feed him instead of adding into the porridge. Today, I introduced cheese to him!! My hubby and I took a long tine to decide which brand to buy because we were looking at which 1 has the lowest sodium content. Although we bought the 1 with the lowest content, I still find it bit too saltish for him.

have u intro rice yet?if not, i recommend pumpkin rice or rice with soup...like what other mummy say, its good to intro different texture to ur little one...my son started abit of rice when he turn 1 year old..and he definitely enjoy the pumpkin rice we cooked for him..colourful and yummylicious...i used that to teach him to self feed as it tends to be more sticky and easier for him to self feed... Another dish tat i gave my son was miso udon (both can get from supermarket) and add in chicken breast...miso is quite good for babies if u google...if u find udon too thick for ur child, try replacing with vermicelli...ingredients wise, you can add in carrots, broccoli or watever u feel like giving ur child for a healthy balanced diet...
